In a society where being straight and cisgender is often assumed as the default, people who identify as trans, non-binary, lesbian, gay, bisexual face barriers accessing healthcare and experience poor health outcomes.

This session will raise awareness of medical trauma and the ongoing implications of such trauma among members of gender and sexual minority communities. Highlighting common missteps and providing practical suggestions for inclusive practice will help participating physiotherapists to adopt and expand inclusive language and practices.

Presenter

Kristy Harcourt (she/her) is a social worker, educator and consultant focused on the well-being of LGBTQ people.  She teaches about gender and sexual diversity at MacEwan University and has a clinical social work practice in Edmonton.
