Infection Prevention and Control and COVID-19

It is important that physiotherapists have up-to-date information and feel well informed and equipped to navigate through the changing COVID-19 situation. The care and support that physiotherapists provide Albertans is vital.

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)

At this time, it appears the virus is transmitted by larger droplets, like from a cough or sneeze. It is also possible for people to be exposed to the virus from contaminated objects or surfaces by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth.

General Prevention

There are many common respiratory viruses circulating in Alberta and globally. To help protect against all respiratory illnesses, including the flu and coronavirus, you should:

  • Use good hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing
  • Stay at home and away from others if you are feeling ill
  • Regularly clean high-touch surfaces
  • Contact your primary health provider or 811 Health Link if you have questions or concerns about your health
