College members can change their registration status in one of two ways:
1. Change from inactive to active status
Physical therapists with an inactive license must change their license status to active before working as a physical therapist in Alberta. This can be done by completing and submitting a license change request form. Members who practiced outside Alberta must also provide a professional reference from the regulatory board where they most recently practiced. This can be done via the professional reference form. Members complete the form's top portion and then request the regulatory board complete the questions under the regulatory board/agency section and submit to the College of Physical Therapists of Alberta. Professional references are valid only if completed in the past three months.
2. Resign their registration
Members in good standing can request the cancellation of their registration by submitting a signed resignation request along with their current practice permit to the College. Once your resignation is cancelled, you can no longer practice in Alberta. If you later wish to re-register, you must apply and meet all registration requirements in place at the time of re-registration. Please note, when you re-register both a registration fee and annual dues will be applied.
Please contact the College if you have any questions.
